From the moment I became cognizant after my surgery I remember telling people that I could see two of them. I was concerned about this, but after brain surgery, I guess you are just glad to still be around. As the days wore on I started bringing it up with my doctors every time I saw them, I had become increasingly concerned. They said this also was a normal side effect of brain surgery. Although, it was something they could do something about. I saw an eye doctor who prescribed me eye glasses with one side frosted so that I could basically only see out of one eye. This worked as far as me not seeing double anymore. Eventually I got an eye patch so that I could switch it between eyes. As with the throwing up, this too seemed to get better with time. I saw an eye specialist in the States who said I could get prism glasses to improve my double vision. I saw him about a year after my surgery and he said that I could use some slight correction for double vision but prisms only come in eyeglass form and I already have very bad eyesight, he did not want to prescribe it on top of my prescription. I guess I could have worn my contacts and got glasses with no prescription and prisms, that is what I did for my frosted glasses.
The blood clot that moved to my brain destroyed part of my cerebellum and that part was removed in surgery. The part of the destroyed cerebellum controlled balance and some eyesight. The doctor thinks it is possible that my current vision deficiencies might be because of the surgery. One thing that I was able to find online was the correlation between balance and eyesight. It is possible that my eyesight could have improved on it’s own, but as I needed to work on balance as well, it was beneficial that they worked together and hopefully as my balance improves, my eyesight will as well. Currently I hold my head at a slight angle to compensate and most of the time I can see fine. I have some trouble with my close up vision, especially in the evening, but that is mostly because I am 50. My reading glasses help and even make me see single vision, when this happens close up.
